Air

Air

Nine woodcuts created by artist Lucie Lambert and nine poems written by Robert Melançon successfully achieve the daunting task of halting and subduing air long enough to transform the element into a livre d'artiste of readings that are always fresh. . . . The very vitality of air is imprinted into the subtle waving, curling, yielding motions and given generous and ever-changing expression with the characteristic vigour of woodcut prints. The poems of Robert Melançon, each one printed on a separate page, evoke sensual experiences awakened by the air. . . . Facing each print on the opposite page is a poem in French, together with its artful translation into English by Philip Stratford. . . . The overall effect of composition, design and production results in this superb accomplishment: a book as work of art and collector's item.
